Oregon Opportunity Grants for 2012-13
September 19, 2011
At its meeting on August 26, 2011, OSAC's board of commissioners approved
award amounts and application deadlines for Oregon Opportunity Grants for the
2012-13 academic year.
For 2012-13, the Opportunity Grant award amount is a flat amount of $1950, regardless of the type of Oregon college or university the student attends. Both the minimum and maximum award amounts will be $1950. For half time students the award amount is half of the flat award.
Eligible students who file their 2012-13 FAFSAs by February 1, 2012, will be considered for an Oregon Opportunity Grant. However, filing a FAFSA by the deadline does not guarantee that applicants will receive an award. Awards are made first-come, first-served, according to available funds. OSAC recognizes the importance of providing advanced guidance to all students to know when the best time is to file a FAFSA to gain consideration for the Oregon Opportunity Grant.
In an effort to increase communication to students, OSAC will send an email to all 2012-13 Opportunity Grant awardees notifying them of their award. In the past not all Opportunity Grant recipients received an award letter which has been the only method by which a student is aware of the award. OSAC wants to ensure that all recipients have this financial knowledge so every citizen can make an informed decision on furthering their education.
