The Military includes six branches of service. All branches of service have the goal of protecting our county but each branch has unique way they go about completing this mission. Click on the links below to learn more about each branch of service.

If you are interested in attending military academies you need to start working on this goal early in their high school career. This is a highly specialized application process. To prepare you can

• Talk with your high school counselor
• Connect with a military recruiter
• Take the ASVAB, if available

Military Academy Options Include:

• United States Military Academy — Army
• United States Naval Academy — Navy and Marine Corps
• United States Coast Guard Academy
• United States Merchant Marine Academy
• United States Air Force Academy

ROTC is a leadership program that allows students to take 24 elective credits that coincide with a four-year college degree. Many colleges have an ROTC program - check the university to learn more.

• Scholarships are available to high school seniors for Army ROTC, Air Force ROTC, and Navy ROTC
• There are some academic requirements for admission and continuation, depending upon branch of service
• Benefits include living allowances while in college and entering the branch as an officer post-college

Access to specialized training may be enhanced by community college credit.

Enlisting in the Military

The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery or ASVAB is an aptitude test used to determine qualifications for enlistment in the armed forces and potential career paths. 

The test includes sections on: 

• General Science
• Arithmetic Reasoning
• Word Knowledge
• Paragraph Comprehension
• Mathematics Knowledge
• Electronics information
• Auto and Shop Information
• Mechanical Comprehension
